The Río Verde is a pristine, clear green river that carves through untouched Colombian rainforest. Start exploring by a 4×4 journey to the edge of the Jungle, and hike down the jungle canyon with pack-mules carrying the Rafts.

Paddle over 25 KMs of the Rio Verde and the famous Rio Samana. Class 3 & 4 waves and rapids.

We will stop to swim in a pristine waterfall, interact with local traditional gold miners and discover the countless species of endemic fauna and flora.

ITINERARY

  • Meet at 6 AM in Medellin and drive 2 ½ hours to the small mountain town of San Fransisco
  • Enjoy breakfast overlooking the mountains that create the the Rio Verde watershed
  • Journey by 4×4 to the town of Boqueron
  • Hike 1 ½ hour from Boqueron down the valley as mules carry the gear
  • Cool off with a swim in the pristine water
  • Raft the magnificent Rio Verde and Rio Samana for over 25 KMs
  • Drive back to Medellin arriving around 7 PM

Meet your guide and safety kayaker at 6 AM at Calle 8 #43A – 89, el Poblado, Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia. Drive 2 ½ hours to the town of San Francisco. Eat a traditional Colombian breakfast at our favorite restaurant (El palacio de los Frijoles) with a spectacular mountain view overlooking the watershed you will soon discover. Start the adventure with a 1 ½ hour hike down a jungle canyon while mules transport your gear. 

Cool off in the pristine green water that gives the name. Your professional guide will lead the group in a river safety orientation. Raft the Rio Verde into the Rio Samana. 

Enjoy a picnic lunch from a high boulder where you can jump into the deep pool below. Explore a hidden waterfall cascading through the tall jungle. Continue rafting the thrilling Class III/IV rapids, with the biggest rapids right at the end. Meet your driver at the Puente Samana and return to Medellin (around 7 PM depending on traffic).

If you’d like to enjoy a lower price or find it more convenient to meet us directly at the river, this option is for you! Join us at 8:00 AM at La Piñuela in our Operational office next to El Palacio de los Frijoles. Kilometer 84, Medellín-Bogotá Highway, Cocorná, Antioquia.

A 100% deposit is required 3 days before the trip. For last-minute payment or reservation requests, please contact Expedition Colombia. All payments must be made through our booking platform or via a deposit into our Bancolombia account.

According to the Colombian tax system:

  • Foreigners are exempt from IVA.
  • Colombian residents, citizens, and foreigners living in Colombia for more than 6 months will be charged of the IVA.
  • For companies or agencies, the full IVA will be charged.
