BOOK THE TRIP

ITINERARY

Welcome to Medellin! Our team will pick you up at the airport, or welcome you to your hotel, before an afternoon meeting. This trip
is special, and we need to make sure you have the appropriate gear and experiences to enjoy it to the fullest. After going through the itinerary and the logistical details, our lead guide will also give you a presentation on the history and incredible biodiversity of the Rio Samaná! Make sure you get a good night of sleep!

Starting from Medellin, we will use our 4×4 trucks to reach the trailhead at the headwaters of the Samana. On our first day, we will
cross the cloud forest and witness the incredible evolution of the ecosystems at loose elevation. At lunch, enjoy a refreshing swim and a “Fiambre”, a traditional meal wrapped in banana leaves. After an afternoon of trekking under the dense canopy of the tropical rainforest, reach “El porvenir” our first rural homestay. There, you will understand why Colombian people have the reputation to be
happy and hospitable!

On our second day, dive deeper into a maze of jungle covered mountains. Wildlife is abundant, and your guide will point out
many species of birds, plants, and animals endemic to this mountain range. Spend the night in a finca from a local family
where you will taste home-cooked meals and hear fascinating stories about this hidden area of Colombia (once was a FARC stronghold and now is entirely secure).

After two days and a half of trekking, a change of perspective is welcome! This will be your last morning on foot. At lunchtime, your
rafting guides will greet you on the shores of the Rio Samana and soon, you will be effortlessly floating on crystal clear water. Your
guide will fill you in on the Samana’s incredible hydrology and the different threats this unique river is under. As the sunsets reach our jungle camp and spend the evening by the campfire

Start the day with an invigorating morning dip in the river. Take a short jungle hike leading you to a viewpoint and an incredible bird
watching spot! After these rejuvenating morning experiences, brace for the excitement of navigating Class IV rapids.
River Samaná is a formidable river concealed within dense jungle and constrained by low granite walls. Explore secluded beaches
and revel in the hidden waterfalls. Your adventure culminates at El Puente del Río Samaná, situated adjacent to the Medellín-Bogotá highway, offering convenient access to return to Medellín via our comfortable van.
Celebrate in Medellin and say farewell to your adventure companions and guides!
