The 2-day Camino Verde Trek is an excellent way to see pristine jungle, while having time to relax by the river and enjoy at your own pace. The Camino Verde Trek is an ideal multi-day hike for families.

Trek on a pleasant trail, alongside rivers and through jungle covered mountains, to reach the small Hamlet of “el Porvenir”. Spend your afternoon exploring the surroundings and interacting with local famers. Discover plants, birds and animals that only exist in this region.

During your homestay, get a unique insight on the rural lifestyles of the area, and experience first hand their culture. Eat locally sourced food and sleep in a cozy bed!

Next day, return to the trailhead via a different trail, and choose to visit a cacao farm (extra), or head back to Medellin after one last waterfall swim!

ITINERARY

  • After breakfast, meet your bilingual professional adventure guide at 6:30 a.m. at our Medellín office (calle 8 #43A-89, Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia)
  • Drive for 2 hours from Medellín to Pailania, Antioquia
  • Begin your 2 day trek on a mysterious trail through the department’s most remote jungle
  • Hike along a pristine Green River, or “Río Verde” and breathe in the fresh air of the rainforest as you watch out for rare birds and plants
  • Spend 1 night in a local house and discover the rural Colombian lifestyle
  • On the return, trek to the trail and get back to Medellín by 6 PM

Meet your guide at 5:30 am at our office at calle 8 #43A-89. Travel across the plateau of Río Negro to reach “El Alto Bonito”, the highest point on the Medellín/Bogotá highway. Trek for approximately 4 hours from El Retiro and finish the first day in La Vereda el Porvenir with multiple swimming breaks at natural pools. Trek through the most pristine part of the canyon to soak in incredible biodiversity. Stop for a typical cowboy lunch packed in a banana leaf with a beautiful view at “La Esperanza”. Enjoy snacks and hike to “Río Verde de los Henaos”. Enjoy the hospitality of a campesino family for the evening and stay overnight in comfy beds.

After a hearty home cooked breakfast, start the 4.5 hour hike. Along the way, scout for birds with your local guide as you will be walking through jungle. Enjoy stunning views of the rainforests and mountains of the Río Verde valley. In the late afternoon, return to the trail head and Pailania. Receive 4×4 pick up and drive 1 hour to Cocorna. Drive by bus for 2 hours to return to Expedition Colombia Adventure Café (Cra. 43e #11-13, Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia) by 6 PM. *Transport and arrival time can vary depending on traffic.

Extend your trip by 2 days and 1 night to go on a river rafting adventure on the Río Verde. The Río Verde is a 40 kilometer stretch of world-class whitewater (Class 3+/ 4). A pristine, clear green river, she carves through untouched Colombian rainforest and is accessed after a 2 hour hike with mules that transport your gear. Camp overnight on Day 4 in a jungle camp with sheltered hammocks and enjoy fire cooked meals prepared by your guides. After rafting on Day 5, drive for 2 hours to return to Expedition Colombia Adventure Café (calle 8 #43a-89, Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia) by 7 pm.  *Transport time can vary.

All payment must be done through our booking platform, or via a deposit in our Bancolombia bank account.
